Stargate Kelmscott
The works at Stargate Shopping Centre in Kelmscott began as proposed additions and alterations to an existing neighbourhood centre and throughout the course of the project the scope expanded to include one new restaurant pad site and later, one new retail pad site.
The original dated facades and entries were replaced with crisp new parapets and modern blade-style entry statements. A corner of the building was removed to create a sundrenched alfresco area, surrounded by lush landscaping. The resurfacing of the existing car park and the establishment of secure staff parking have increased amenity for patrons and employees alike. To address the low ceilings and darkness in the existing malls, three new skylights were added. A combination of natural light and new designer fittings now illuminate the new curved bulkheads and the realigned, retiled malls. The two new pad site buildings are located on a prominent corner of the site, on Albany Highway and create a ‘main street’ presence.
The works to both the building and the car park were staged to allow for continued trading, even throughout the installation of the large new skylight structures directly outside the Coles and IGA Supermarkets. Continued trading and the delivery of significant cost benefits were enabled by the substantial reuse of the existing building.
