The Mezz Mount Hawthorn
This innovative refurbishment of the original Mount Hawthorn Shopping Centre includes special features such as an internal street to the shopping centre, enhancing the existing café strip culture.
The refurbishment works included modern new facades and entry statements, as well as new mall finishes and amenities. New specialty shops were established under the level of a new deck parking area.
The original open-air parking has been redeveloped into a multi-level undercroft and deck parking facility, significantly increasing amenity for patrons and improving potential income for tenants. All works were undertaken during continuous trading, minimising disruption for patrons and tenants.
The project has received a number of award nominations including; shortlisted for the 2008 National Property Council of Australia Pitney Bowes Mapinfo Award for Shopping Centres, a nomination for the 2008 RAIA WA Architecture Awards, Category 5—Commercial Architecture and was the winner of two Property Council of Australia Awards for Excellence in Retail Marketing.
The sketch design, to DA stage was undertaken by James Christou + Partners Architects. KPA took on the project from working drawing stage until completion.
