KPA Architects – 50 Years of Achievement

Keeping a business running for half a century is no small feat. It’s important to stop and smell the roses once in a while. So, last night, we did just that!

Thanks to all those who joined us for the festivities. A big thank you, also, to Christian Tinelli and Café Lucia for the delicious food, to The Scene Team who helped us capture the evening, and to Scott Murphy Designs for our 50th anniversary logo.

5 Decades of Excellence in Full-Service Designing

The secret to a great design outcome is managing the project delivery professionally and seamlessly. KPA embraced this concept very early in WA by becoming a ‘full service’ design firm coordinating all aspects of a project. This has evolved to include human-centred design discovery, architectural, drafting, interior design, project management, and construction supervision services. You can see the benefits of this total project management approach in our successful recent large and small projects, like Opal Healthcare’s 120 bed aged care home in Treeby, and the three-unit modular-built Specialist Disability Accommodation in Wonthella Geraldton. KPA was actively involved in their design and project delivery.

National Design Principles

New national design principles to guide refurbishments and new residential aged care accommodation builds came into effect this week. The federal government initiative aims to create more home-like environments in aged care premises. KPA Architects have studied the guidelines closely and we are available to discuss their application to West Australian conditions.

Five Decades of Retail Excellence

Creating exciting new shopping environments was the foundation of KPA Architects in WA. Beginning in 1984 with the Newman Boulevard Shopping Centre we have helped create numerous centres in Perth metro and statewide. Some of the early landmark developments were Innaloo Shopping Centre and Mirrabooka Square. More recently we participated in the creation of popular community hubs like Eaton Fair and The Mezz, Mt Hawthorn. As centres evolve and new ones emerge, we look forward to helping clients develop their retail assets for their local communities to enjoy.

Five Decades of Retirement Living Excellence

Creating new housing for people to enjoy retirement is core business at KPA Architects. We have participated in 17 major projects in Perth and regional WA, including Bethanie Gwelup Retirement Village, which won the inaugural Property Council of Australia’s Retirement Living Innovation Award in 2017. An exciting new project for KPA is the Collie Riverview Retirement Village in South-West WA, designed to deliver smart contemporary living in a pristine regional setting. As we celebrate 50 years of service, we look forward to continuing to assist our clients in serving their communities with leading projects into the future.

Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre

KPA Architects are delighted with the re-opening of the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre’s indoor pool 1. This challenging project for the City of Mandurah included the replacement of the existing roof and structure, pool refurbishment, along with a custom design for a new suspended wall and ceiling system. A big thank you to PCB Contractors Pty Ltd and all parties involved in completing this successful project that the community can now enjoy.

Five Decades of Excellence: Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

An important innovation at KPA Architects is designing homes for people living with disabilities. We are proud to have pioneered Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) in Western Australia, including:

– The first NDIS approved SDA in WA, for Rocky Bay in 2020.

– WA’s first SDA designed and built with modular construction, for housing provider Habilitas in Geraldton.

– Brightwater’s Piara Waters, a world class SDA project with 7 houses co-designed with and for people living with Huntington’s Disease.

We are honoured to be assisting people living with disabilities and we look forward to continuing the important work with our partners in the sector.

Peter Van Geloven – Celebrating 10 Years
